What is difference between i3 and Pentium Quad-Core

A few years ago, choosing a processor was pretty straightforward. AMD and Intel each produced two series of processors, a mainstream line and a budget line. Each company used only one processor socket, and there was a limited range of processor speeds available. Nowadays, choosing a processor isn’t as simple. AMD and Intel now make literally scores of different processor models. Each company now offers several lines of processors, which differ in clock speed, L2 cache, socket type, host-bus speed, special features supported, and other characteristics.

i3 Processors

i3 processors are same version of dual core processors. i3 processors provide q-way multitasking capability, runs at fixed speed ideal for typical tasks and media playback but not games.

Quad Core processors

A quad-core processor is a chip with four independent units called cores that read and execute central processing unit (CPU) instructions such as add, move data, and branch. some i5  have 4 cores so they are also called quad core processors.

Within the chip, each core operates in conjunction with other circuits such as cache, memorymanagement, and input/output (I/O) ports. The individual cores in a quad-core processor can run multiple instructions at the same time, increasing the overall speed for programs compatible with parallel processing.

Intel Turbo Boost

The Intel Turbo Boost Technology allows a processor to dynamically increase its clock speed whenever the need arises.Quad core processors are equiped with turbo boost technology.

While none of the Core i3 CPUs have Turbo Boost.

Cache size

Whenever the CPU finds that it keeps on using the same data over and over, it stores that data in its cache.

Obviously, with a larger cache, more data can be accessed quickly. ore i3 processors have either 3MB or 4MB of cache. The Quad Core  have either 8MB or 10MB of cache.

Hyper-Threading

For instance, a Core i3, which is only a dual core, can actually serve two threads per core. While Quad core(i5)have 4 cores and serve 4 threads per core.

You’ll find some examples of the processors below.
